Currently the Iroquois people are evenly divided between the United States and Canada. In addition to those settlements shown on this map, there is an Oneida reservation near Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a Seneca-Cayuga settlement in northeastern Oklahoma. A substantial number of Iroquois live off-reserve. Even those on reserves and reservations live a life that at least superficially resembles that of their non-Indian neighbours. In many communities, though, the native language has shown remarkable persistence and a portion of several communities has been able to maintain the traditional religion of their people. Solid triangles represent communities where traditional (Longhouse) religion is practised; open triangles, those where traditional religion is absent. A variant of the traditional religion is practised by the Seneca-Cayuga in Oklahoma.
