Cedar Box or Bowl Handle from the Lachane Site, Prince Rupert.
This 1,600-year-old example of the wood-carver's craft was preserved in waterlogged deposits, along with quantities of basketry, cordage, and other wooden artifacts. The curvilinear style of the design, possibly a sea monster, shows clear similarities to the historical art of the northern Northwest Coast.
