This is one of about fifty such bowls known from the south coast and south-western Plateau. They all show a sitting or squatting human figure holding a bowl in its lap. Snakes or other animal elements are incorporated into the bowl or figure. Most are not well dated, but they are usually thought to be about 2,500-1,500 years old. However, some scanty historical references suggest that some seated human figure bowls may have been used by shamans in secret rituals up to the time of European contact. 19 cm high.
