In 1772, Attuiock and four other members of his family were taken to England by an English trader, Captain George Cartwright. After spending a winter in London, where he complained there were "too many houses; too much smoke; too many people," Attuiock died of smallpox during his return to Labrador. In this pastel portrait by Nathaniel Dance, Attuiock holds a lance of the type used to kill sea mammals.
