Calgary Business Group Celebrating Dingman Discovery, 28 July 1914.
Several members of the Calgary Petroleum Products syndicate were present in publicity photographs promoting the sale of the high-quality naphtha crude, which here is being poured from the separator into the mug. Holding the pipe is manager-director Archibald Wayne Dingman and receiving the oil is T.A.P. "Tappy" Frost, a Calgary alderman and promoter who later gave away sample vials of "real Alberta oil" on the streets of Toronto. W.S. Herron (in the white hat) was the founder of the company and "Ike" Ruttle (in the white suit) was a Calgary investment dealer whose firm of Baldwin, Brockbank and Ruttle advertised oil stocks with the slogan "WE HANDLE HIGH CLASS INVESTMENTS." Holding a white coat on his arm is R.A. "Bob" Brown, Sr., who shortly before the oil boom was superintendent of Calgary's Electric Light department, and subsequently became the superintendent of the Calgary Street Railway Company. Brown later formed Turner Valley Royalties, which was an important force in the development of the third Turner Valley Boom in the mid-1930s, and worked with his son, R.A. Brown, Jr., in the formation of Home Oil, a powerful Canadian independent producer.
