Early Palaeo-Eskimo Artifacts from Saglek Bay, Northern Labrador.
The first Palaeo-Eskimos entered northern Labrador nearly 4,000 years ago. All of these artifacts were produced by such people their small size and careful flaking are typical of the Arctic Small Tool tradition. At the top (from left to right) are an arrowhead; a harpoon end-blade; a burin for carving wood, bone, antler or ivory; and a small scraper for working skin or some other material. At the bottom at the left is a chipped stone knife, and on the right is a small edge probably used to work driftwood gathered on the beaches of northern Labrador.
