The archaeologist's task of uncovering the past is often a race against time and the eroding away of the shoreline. Rising water levels are of particular concern in the Maritimes, where many archaeological sites have been lost to flooding and erosion. At this prehistoric site on the tidal Tracadie estuary, for example, the archaeologist was too late.
