Saltwater Lagoon Archaeological Sites, Prince Edward Island (2,500 years ago to Historic Period).
Many of the sites associated with an increase in population in the Maritimes about 2,000 years ago occur on the shores of saltwater lagoons. One such site, in northern Prince Edward Island, is shown. Close to a freshwater stream, it afforded early visitors a rich resource area for both land and marine-based animals, fish and birds.
