Late Prehistoric Ceramics (1,300 to 500 years ago).
Ceramic earthen ware continued to be used from its first introduction into the Maritimes 2,500 years ago, until the time of the earliest European contact. Although somewhat similar in form and size, the pottery of the period from 600 to 1,300 years ago was not as well made. The pieces seen here were fired at a lower heat, so they are not as hard. Decoration was more simplistic and was typically confined to the upper rim of the vessel. Cord-wrap stick design on these vessels also distinguishes this pottery from earlier types. The ceramics shown are 1,000 years old.
