Art pottery, implying Doulton (illustration 24) or any other ornamental ceramic wares loosely gathered under the same heading, was often the choice for fashionable wedding gifts. One MontrΘal china specialist recommended Doulton, along with Worcester and German porcelain, for wedding presents, in the Gazette on February 11, 1890. In this photograph of the gifts received by the daughter of a prominent MontrΘal businessman in 1895, there are four ceramic jardinieres in the front row and a painted ceramic vase (far right). Other ceramic presents, scattered about amid the glittering array of silver, include a clock, cups, dessert plates, another jardiniΦre (on the chair at the left), a condiment set, and what appears to be an art pottery jug (on the shelf, upper left).
