The device which was used to bring the Enniskillen oil to the surface was a barrel type, two-valve pump located at the bottom of the well.
The pump was put into the hole at the end of a series of steel pipe tubing which was screwed together and lowered into the hole, piece by piece. The pump action itself is simple. In the working barrel (A) are two valves. The standing valve (B) rests in a stationary position in the bottom of the working barrel. The working valve (C) is attached to a column of sucker rods which extends to the surface through the tubing. It is the up and down motion of these rods which opens and closes the valves and lifts the oil to the surface.
