The slightly raised ring of gravel in the foreground, approximately four metres across, once held down the edges of a tent of the Independence I people. The scattered stones in the centre of the ring are all that remain of a stone mid-passage and hearth. The long gully in the background is the result of frost action on the raised beaches where the site occurs. Approximately 4,000 years ago, when the site was occupied, this beach would have formed the shoreline.
