In most arctic regions, the importance of sea mammal hunting decreased during the cold period of the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. These early twentieth-century Copper Inuit spent the summer in the interior, instead of hunting seals or whales along the coast. Weapons, camp gear and stored food were carried by the people and their dogs as they moved about the country in search of caribou or fishing spots.
