This site, located in the southern Barren Grounds, close to the tree line, contains the remains of several occupations by early Indian caribou hunters. The dark lines along the walls of the excavation are scattered charcoal and other debris from the ancient living floors. The various levels of occupation are separated by wind-blown sand that accumulated during periods when the site was abandoned. The cluster of rocks on the lower level is what remains of a hearth, and the red chaining pins show the locations of artifacts found nearby. Careful excavation of several such stratified sites in the southern Barren Grounds has shown a lengthy history of Indian occupations of the region.
