This painting of Pauline Cove was done during the winter of 1893-1894 by whaler John Bertonccini, "Johnny the Painter." It shows the whalers relieving the boredom of an arctic winter by playing baseball and soccer on the ice surface. To the right more seamen are tobogganing on the hill leading down to the harbour. Ashore on the left is a tiny settlement of warehouses and Inuit huts.
