When the nomads completed a journey they unloaded their supplies and equipment from the travois and set up camp, usually in a circular arrangement. The entrance of the camp and all tipis faced the east, away from the prevailing westerly winds. Notice the travois leaning against the tipi in the right foreground of this photograph by Curtis.
