The horse's impact on buffalo hunting is evident in illustration 1 but other aspects of traditional Blackfoot culture were also transformed. Horses were able to pull larger travois and heavier loads than dogs. This enabled the nomads to live a more comfortable life in large, well-furnished tipis such as the one seen in this photograph by the remarkable American photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952).
