This engraving by Frederic Remington (1861-1909) records the activities at a fur trade post. Two of the Indians wear Hudson's Bay Company coats and an officer of the North-West Mounted Police stands in the background while the trader and a customer barter. The Blackfoot never won the admiration of the fur traders because they refused to become trappers of beavers and otters. Instead they offered bison hides, wolf skins, and pemmican for sale.
