Ceremonial pipes for individual ritual use were carried in special bags which were usually elaborately decorated. The pipes enhanced their owners' prestige and were used at the opening, as well as during many rituals when they were circulated among the participants. The pipebag is made from tanned, lightly smoked skin and has beadwork decoration. Included in the design is a human figure mounted on a horse, following a smaller animal.
