This ceremonial garment dates back to the late nineteenth century and is made from tanned skin. There is a considerable amount of beadwork and the area between the neck and shoulder beading and the breast band has been stained yellow. On the front are two vertical rows of cowrie shells. Just above the level of the wearer's knees, at the centre of the front and back of the dress, are triangles of woollen cloth, half navy blue and half red. These triangles have symbolic connotations referring to the buffalo and fertility.
