The goal of British strategy in the Seven Years' War was the expulsion of the French from America. To this end, Britain sought first to reduce the extremities of New France; in 1758 Louisbourg on Isle Royale, Fort Frontenac on Lake Ontario, and Fort Duquesne in the Ohio Valley were captured. In July of the following year the British captured Fort Niagara before striking at the heart of New France. Then in September in the most decisive battle of the war, QuÄbec was taken by dramatic British initiative. A year later the capitulation of MontrÄal heralded the end of New France.
In the end the old strategy of the French and Indians appeared puny indeed in the face of the deliberate and formal military power deployed by the British during the Seven Years' War.
