Less prosperous proprietors in more newly settled regions, for example the shield area of the Muskoka and Nipissing districts and Renfrew County of Ontario, were particularly eager for the inexpensive help British boys provided. In frontier regions lumbering work in winter and construction work in summer were part of the young immigrant's apprenticeship. This boy emigrated in 1892 at age eleven from Manchester.
