The militia was called out soon after the riot was quelled. Note that the last vehicles in this group are private cars provided by the Citizens Committee. The weapon mounted on the first truck is a Vickers machine gun. The militia remained on duty and in control of the city for the next several days. Faced with this overwhelming force, the strikers caved in and called off the strike June 26. The defeat of the Winnipeg strikers effectively marked the end of the most serious part of the strike wave of 1919.
