  1. Striking Miners at Drumheller, Alberta.

  3.      This dispute was not caused by the Winnipeg General Strike but was rooted in the same background of unrest. Here miners struck May 24, 1919, over the refusal of the coal operators to recognize the One Big Union. The strike was marred by violence when returned soldiers attacked the miners' shacks on the outskirts of Drumheller. The miners in this photo are armed with clubs for self-protection.
