In the late summer of 1918, as part of the mounting wave of strikes, Canada's postal workers staged their first nationwide walkout. Here in Calgary soldiers guard businessmen sorting mail in a temporary post office while people wait to pick up letters and parcels that were not being delivered. Such scenes could be witnessed throughout Canada and would be seen again in the summer of 1919 when postal workers in many centres struck in sympathy with their fellow employees in Winnipeg.
