This is the finest surviving rural church of the French regime. The severe lines of the flanking towers are softened by rosette windows and the delicate bell towers with their soaring spires drawing the eye upward. The gilded statues in their wall niches balance the portico and upper window and at the same time give the front a "busy", convivial air. In an age when few people carried watches, the daily routine of the farmers nearby was governed by the chiming of the bells for morning and evening prayers. The wealth of architectural detail of the church reflects the relative affluence of this rural community and the importance of religion in the lives of the people.
