Throughout the first decade of the twentieth century, the Police were equally active in the Western Arctic, especially supervising the actions of American whalers in the Beaufort Sea. Again, such patrols were designed not only to provide law and order, but to impress upon natives and whites alike that Canada could effectively administer these territories. Traveling by dog team in the winter the patrols covered hundreds of square miles of territory. The Yukon however was patrolled the year round. In the bottom picture two men, probably part of a temporary summer detachment, enjoy a restful moment in their tent.
