This picture shows the unconditional surrender at Paardeberg of the famous General Cronje one of the Boer's finest strategists. News of his surrender created wild scenes of jubilation across Canada. Crowds of Canadians paraded and danced in the streets, singing the popular patriotic songs and anthems of the period, "Soldiers of the Queen," "Rule Britannia" and "God Save The Queen," proud of the distinguished part Canadian troops had played in Cronje's defeat.
