Part of Britain's initial difficulty grew out of the Army's unsuitable methods of wartare which were inappropriate in the face of their opponent's guerilla tactics which suited the rough, broken, hilly South African terrain. This picture provides some idea of the battleground and the battle, a type of warfare which maximized the martial virtues of the irregular Canadian troops, their initiative, stamina and tenacity.
