During the American Revolution four member tribes of the Six Nations Confederacy (the Mohawk, Onondaga, Seneca and Cayuga) fought for the King. After that conflict over 2,000 of the "Feathered United Empire Loyalists" emigrated to the north shores of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Under their War Chief, Joseph Brant, many of the Iroquois settled on the western boundary of the Credit peoples' hunting territory.
