The Approximate Distribution of the Eastern Algonkian Tribes at the Moment of European Contact.
In the early seventeenth century eleven native linguistic groups, most of them sub-divided into numerous dialects, dwelled within the present-day boundaries of Canada. Of the eleven only one, the Algonkian, prevailed from the Atlantic to the prairies.
