The top graph illustrates the movement of prices of the various metals. Note the decline in silver prices after 1890 and the effect of wartime conditions. The lower graph shows the value of output for the Kootenay district only. Note the general growth pattern and fluctuations for the various metals, in particular the rise and decline in importance of gold and copper and the rise of lead and, more important, of zinc, particularly in the war years.
