Officials of the Immigration Branch examined the newcomers as they disembarked. The Canadian Immigration Act provided for the exclusion of 'undesirable persons'. The people shown in the slide were being deported for a variety of reasons: some suffered from serious mental or physical disabilities; others were classed as criminals or indigents.
