Provincial and municipal police, in uniform and in plain clothes, wait in the lroquois Club lounge for orders to clear the town after the reading of the Riot Act. This building, which still exists (lower photograph), belonged to the Johns-Manville Company and served as headquarters for the forces of order. The police, most of them members of the provincial force, appear to be well armed. Holding their submachine guns and rifles, they are confronting the strikers. who outnumber them but are armed with only sticks and stones.
