This little mining town, which had a population of 9,000 in 1949, lies south of the St. Lawrence River in the heart of the Eastern Townships. Asbestos is located one hundred miles north-east of Montreal and more than eighty miles south-west of Quebec city, south of Trois-Rivieres and north of Sherbrooke.
