This was one of the early structures to serve as the town's theatre, and it was as makeshift and short-lived as its predecessors. Yet such theatres continued to serve their audiences, until one of real professional standing, the "Royal Lyceum", was opened in 1849. Meanwhile, the other main towns had similarly developed theatres. Montreal had built quite a luxurious "Theatre Royal" in 1825.
