This picture of main street Fort Macleod a generation later suggests a much more settled town. The frontier era had nearly passed and, while the ranchers remained a potent economic and political force, the town merchants now identified their interests with the settler and "progress," the latter being interpreted mainly in terms of a more densely settled countryside.
