A pine-panelled bedroom in the red settler's house shown in Slide 3 contains a low-post bedstead and a hooded cradle decorated with a mixture of red and black paint. The feather mattress or tick is supported by a rope spring. It required the help of several people to lace and tighten the ropes properly, and even then, from all reports, the results were none too comfortable. In addition to the usual wide plank headboard and footboard, this bed has a well-turned blanket rail. The floor covering and coverlet were made by joining narrow strips which were hand woven on a small loom. The night-time "convenience" under the bed completes the picture.
