This appropriate companion to the banquet table came from the home of Asa Weller, a prosperous stage coach proprietor in Carrying Place, the western entrance to Prince Edward County, Ontario. The attractive curled maple case is considerably enriched by feather-grain walnut veneer, carved pilasters, and paw feet. It has knife drawers on top and deep bottle drawers in the centre. The glass pulls are replacements. It is interesting to speculate on the origin of such a piece. There are at least three possibilities: it could have been made in an Upper Canadian urban centre, imported from the United States, or it could be a combination of the two. Perhaps imported pilasters, feet and veneers were applied to a locally-made case.
