As continued agitation forced many Japanese Canadians out of the resource and construction industries, large numbers of them turned to farming. like Mr. Y. Yashiki of Steveston, British Colinmbia, photographed in 1926 outside the offices of Dominion Canners. Mr. Yashiki and his coworkers in the berry and vegetable sectors of agriculture often proved successful enough to corner the market. Mr. Yashiki's substantial, up-to-date equipment reveals his prosperity - and something else more important. His clothes and equipment give the lie to the slander that Orientals would always remain alien labourers, refusing to assimilate.
