These Chinese barrel-makers, photo- graphed in Vancouver around 1910, were capable of handling their jobs, but white workers prevented them from continuing in skilled trades and occupations, reserving these for themselves. Labour unions closed their ranks to Oriental workers, and used union labels to mark off their own products from those of non-unionized firms with Asian workers.
