Camaraderie was an important dimension of the IWW's appeal to itinerant workers, and the hall was one of the few social centres that was part of their experience. There stiffs could hear a lecture on revolutionary industrial unionism, read Marxist classics in the library, sing protest songs from the famous "little red songbook" around a battered piano or simply swap tales about life on the road. This photograph shows a "smoker" held at the lWW Hall in Prince Rupert on Christmas night, 1911.
