Several sectors of Canada's buoyant economy needed large numbers of unskilled labourers, and these were supplied from a pool which was national, frequently continental, in scope. Itinerants might spend the spring and summer on railway construction in northern Ontario, the early autumn in the harvest fields, like these men working near Qu'appelle in 1905, and the winter months sawing trees, like these stiffs in a BC lumber camp.
