The very existence of this ballad, the most famous ever written about Bell Island, is evidence of the successful transfer of yet another outport tradition to the new industrial world. But this particular ballad is important also for the insights its direct and simple language offers into the attitudes of the first generation of Bell Island "muckers" towards their new working environment. It was about men of the mettle of the miner portrayed in this slide that "Wabana You're a Corker" was composed. And it was by them that it was loved and sung.
