By 1860, Canada had developed a considerable industry surrounding railways. The Grand *runk's Montreal yard and shops formed a huge complex located at Point St. Charles. This photograph shows an engine under construction. Further industry grew out of the railways as factories were built in other towns and cities to supply equipment for the railways.
