The smeIter complex at Copper Cliff, near Sudbury, before 1920.
Shown is the massive smelter complex at Copper Cliff soon after the formation of the International Nickel Company of Canada in 1916. The original Canadian Copper Company had been amalgamated with several other companies to form one of the largest corporations on the continent. Small wonder that a small community such as Sudbury would be over-awed by this corporate giant.
In the foreground and to the left can be seen parts of the company town of Copper Cliff. The housing and urban amenities provided for company officials and some workers were usually superior to those available in Sudbury itself.
