Shown are the miners who probably found mining somewhat less than romantic. Their work was long and hard, and safety equipment was primitive or unknown. Candles on the miners' hats were still used for underground lighting. Note the extreme youth of some of the miners. A few of the miners lived in company-owned housing in Copper Cliff, and some made the daily three-mile walk from Sudbury. The group pictured was part of the 130 men employed at this mine. Their wages averaged about two dollars per day. No Iabour organization existed here; the only strike of the decade ended quickly with the leaders fired.
