The new Eldorado, the silver boom town of Cobalt, 1906.
Shown is the train from Toronto arriving at the Cobalt station. The discovery of silver in 1903 during the construction of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway (now the Ontario Northland) led to the creation of this instant town. Optimism was in the air. Travellers who had boarded the Pullman at ten in the previous evening and alighted in Cobalt in the morning immediately felt the excitement, and sometimes thought that a holiday, a strike, or a fire was responsible for the crowds.
