  18. To install a Canada's Visual History icon onto your desktop, use the RUN command and "setup.exe" on the CD-ROM drive. Double click on the icon to start .

  20. This program will install an icon on your desktop. No files will be copied
  21. to your hard-disk.

  23. New in the Second Edition of Canada's Visual History CD-ROM

  25. The Second Edition of Canada's Visual History CD-ROM is designed to run on both Macintosh and Windows computers.  If you have used the First Edition of Canada's Visual History CD-ROM, you will notice some design changes that make the user interface work on both systems.

The multiple window interface of the First Edition has been replaced with a single window with which to view the volumes. A list of your previous activities, accessed through the Previous button allows you to return to the volume/image you have already viewed.  Please note that if you switch languages all references to Index queries and Search queries will be removed from the previous activities list.  This is because the textual data on which the queries are based differs between languages.

  29. The return arrow on the bottom right corner of the screen allows you to quickly return to the last function you selected from the Main Menu.

  31. Also new in this edition of Canada's Visual History CD-ROM is the ability to scroll through the images in their enlarged format.  Clicking on the small image switches to an enlarged view, to return to the small view simply click on the large image.

  36. Q. When I copy an image to the word processor I get a line of nonsense characters.

  38. A. Place the cursor in front of the first character in the line (ignore the leading spaces) and press return.  The image will appear instantly. This only occurs when copying text and followed by an image on systems running Windows 3.1 and only affects the first image copied.

  40. Q: The first time I copy a picture or text , the editor is very slow to open.

  42. A: This is normal, and will depend on the speed of your system and the
  43. available RAM.  The first time you copy text or images please click once on
  44. the copy button and wait for the computer to process your command.

  46. Q: How do I switch back to Canada's Visual History once I am in the text editor?

  48. A: On the IBM-PC, press and hold the ALT key then hit the TAB key to
  49. switch back and forth between applications.  On the Macintosh click on the CVH screen.

  51. Q: When I copy an image on to Write on my  PC the colors change. Can I do something?

  53. A: Once you quit Canada's Visual History CD-ROM, the images that you have copied
  54. to the word processor will be restored to their original quality.
