A second view of Quebec, this time from the LÄvis shore shows the river passage congested with all manner of craft including a three-masted ship that could be an emigrant packet and a paddle-wheel steamer proceeding possibly to Montreal. On the heights of the bluff are the ramparts of the Citadel and just above water-level,the many buildings of the lower-town. Many immigrants saw no more of Quebec than this. Some ships carried on to Montreal without disembarking; others transferred their passengers directly to steamers. However, those immigrants who did land at Quebec found the same class of runners and baggage snatchers that infested Liverpool and New York.
